Reasons to Give Up

Alright, there are probably hundreds, thousands, or even millions of good reasons to give up on the world, life etc... What I intend to do is discuss them, one at a time.

Reason to give up #4

There is really nothing left to do, anyway. Back when they (meaning mortal men with an agenda) wrote the Bible, folks already knew that there was "no new thing ... blah blah under the sun ... blah blah vanity." That was a while back. If all the important things had already been done by then, there certainly isn't much for us to do today. I haven't noticed anything vital on my "to do" list lately.

I look around and I think maybe we have done entirely too much. Maybe we should have quit doing things before we built things like atomic bombs, clones, and oil tankers. It is possible we could do without pop music, clinical depression, blue laws and fast food. There was probably a time when enough was enough and we sped straight by it into sensitivity training and adult diapers. When the halftime show at the superbowl stars Janet Jackson's boob, we are clearly past our prime.

What is done is done, and there is no point trying to pretend that tampon comercials featuring perky jailbait girls have no place in our world today. If we are wise, however, we can prevent doing any further damage. We must all give up. So please, join forces and save us all from the scourge of progress. Isn't it high time we just let go and coast to the finish line? Take some time and soak in what little remains to enjoy. Precious few pure things exist today beacause we can't leave anything alone. Every day we gain knowledge and add to the wonders of society is another day speeding our descent into destruction. You are doomed. I am doomed. We might as well just give up.
